Fortnite, Fall Guys and Rocket League are among the games with the most child players in the world. However, unfortunately, these are the games in which verbal and written violence against children is the most common.
Epic Games, on the other hand, announced the “Secure Accounts” service to put an end to this situation. With this system, the authorities aim to protect child players and provide them with a safe gaming experience.
Children will have to get parental consent at every step
The restricted account system, which started to be used from today, covers members 13 and under in the USA. The feature, which is available all over the world, will be activated in the age range of “child internet users” determined by government officials in each country. Users in this age range will not be able to use features such as adding friends, purchasing games or in-game content with money, downloading non-Epic Games, and voice or text chat with other players after creating their accounts. In addition, usernames will be automatically determined by Epic Games and cannot be changed.
Parental consent will be required for players to add friends or access some in-game features. Parents will be able to control their children thanks to the pin code that will be sent to the parents by e-mail. Parents will also be able to allow text chats with their children’s friends at any time.
This feature will only cover Fortnite, Rocket League and Fall Guys games at first. However, Epic Games officials stated that they are currently in talks with the producers for other games on the platform and that more games may be included in this system in the coming period.
