The desktop browser market moves relatively slowly, and even a margin of error can often be enough to explain the monthly changes. No exceptions appear in the November 2022 report either. There are only minor fluctuations in the market share of each browser. Still, comparing several months and years makes it possible to see a general trend. For Microsoft Edge, this trend remains mostly positive. Edge’s growth in the desktop browser market continues slowly but steadily.
According to Statcounter, Microsoft Edge has passed the 11% mark for the first time since its release after a while. Modern Chromium-based Edge gained 0.31 points, reaching 11.17% market share. For reference, a year ago Microsoft Edge had a share of about 9.52% (+1.65 year-over-year increase).
Google Chrome is again at the top with a seemingly unattainable 66.13% share (despite a -0.36 drop) and none of its competitors can come close to it.
Although only available on Macs, Apple’s desktop browser, Safari, stands out as the third most popular option with 9.62% market share (+0.26). Firefox is fourth (7.1%) and Opera is fifth with 3.3% (-0.29).
Internet Explorer, the former king of the desktop browser market, continues to be used by approximately 0.77% of all users. Some people are unwilling or unable to quit Internet Explorer, despite Microsoft’s continued efforts to replace it with a much better Edge and built-in Internet Explorer mode.
