Apple has very strict controls in its ecosystem. It was like this before and it still is. While these controls are beneficial for the integrity and quality of the ecosystem, they sometimes put developers in difficult situations. Developers with products in Apple’s ecosystem criticize this system intensely, and it seems that regulatory agencies are starting to focus more on this issue.

“Not sustainable”

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who does not have a good relationship with Apple, attended the New York Times annual DealBook summit and made important statements. Zuckerberg doesn’t think Apple can continue to separate iOS from other app stores that want to compete with it. In addition, Zuckerberg underlines that Apple’s 30 percent commission from each application and all in-app sales is not sustainable or good.

“Among the major computing platforms, Apple stands out. Apple is the only company that can control which apps can be installed on the device. I don’t think it’s sustainable or good.”

Zuckerberg, on the other hand, praised Google for its open policy. As you know, it is possible to install applications to the ecosystem or the phone from other stores besides the Play Store.

Zuckerberg also cites the discussion between Apple and Elon Musk this week, which was only later settled, as an example of what can happen when a single company has complete control over a platform. However, there is still no agreement for the 30 percent cut in the App Store. As you know, Fortnite’s owner, Epic Games and Spotify, brought this situation to legal ground.
