NASA, the agency responsible for studies within the scope of the US space program, recently made a takeoff for the Space Launch System. With this takeoff, the Orion capsule embarked on an important journey. Within the scope of the trip, many remarkable images came. One of them was the image in which the Moon and Earth were in a single frame. Here is that photo!

The photo was taken from a distance of 432,210 km.

NASA has repeatedly delayed its takeoff with the $24 Space Launch System (SLS) rocket model. After all these delays, it made a successful take-off on 16 November. After the flight, the $ 20 billion Orion capsule opened the doors of a great journey.

Five days after launching from Earth, the Orion spacecraft, which successfully flew just 210 kilometers above the surface of the Moon, captured many remarkable images during the mission. One of them was the image of the Moon and the Earth in a single frame. This photo shared by NASA attracted great attention in a short time.

The shared photo was taken only 432,210 km away. This reminds us once again of the fact that the Earth is a very small planet in the vast universe. However, the image also shows the furthest distance traveled by the Orion spacecraft.

The record before the Orion spacecraft belongs to Apollo 13 with 400,171 km. The question of why a vehicle targeting the Moon is so far from both the Earth and the Moon is also very curious. This is because NASA uses the Moon’s orbit and gravity to create the ‘slingshot effect’.

However, the Orion spacecraft is scheduled to land on the shores of San Diego on December 11. Too many delays have occurred under the Artemis 1 program. Especially for manned missions, a little more time is needed. Apart from all these, the Artemis 3 mission is expected to be completed in 2025 or 2026.
