Card water meters, which were put into use in 2008 and are used in many cities today, are known to be used by citizens by purchasing the amount of water they will use from ATM-like machines in advance, loading it on the card and using the card by inserting it into the meter. This system, which is frequently used in cities such as Eskişehir and Ankara, is becoming more common day by day.

However, a video shot recently about this “Sumatik” system managed to go viral on Twitter. The interesting part of the video is that the citizen, who loaded money to his Sumatik card via ATM, did this “manually”.

The video went viral days after it was shared

The video, which was uploaded to Twitter about 5 days ago, went viral today and was shared on almost every social media platform. As you can see in the video, when a citizen who wants to load money into the Sumatik device in Eskişehir extends the money, it is clearly seen that someone else inside takes that money and performs the loading process. After the viral video, some users accused the municipality of irresponsibility, while others interpreted the event in a humorous way.

After the video went viral, Eskişehir Municipality issued a statement, explaining that a citizen waiting in line to load money for test purposes during the control of a defective Sumatik device of the video was done manually and the machine was tested.

Stating that there was no defamation or ill-will in the incident, the authorities stated that they met with the citizen who shared the post and that although the citizen shared the incident with a humorous language, he expressed regret due to the negative reactions on social media.
