Twitter has gone through many policy changes since it was sold to Elon Musk. So much so that some changes did more harm than good to the company. Upon Musk’s unilateral decisions, some employees even said that Twitter could go bankrupt. A blow to the company, which was dragged into the abyss, came from the advertisers.

Among Twitter’s sources of income, the importance of advertisers is quite large. This indicates that the platform should provide companies with confidence in order to survive. The company cannot provide this trust with the policies it carries out and suffers great losses.

Companies’ trust in Twitter is declining!

According to data provided by Pathmatics, 50 of the top 100 companies that advertise on Twitter have given up on it. So much so that these companies spent around $2 billion in advertising on the platform as of 2020.

According to analysis by Media Matters, companies that have stopped advertising on Twitter include CNN, Meta Platforms, Inc. and LinkedIn Corporation. Most of the companies on the list broke their advertising ties with Twitter without any explanation. Other major companies are as follows;

  • LinkedIn Corporation
  • Ford
  • MailChimp (The Rocket Science Group)
  • Nestle
  • Meta Platforms, Inc.
  • American Express Company
  • Hewlett Packard (HP)

Another policy of Twitter that was not welcomed by companies was the blue tick icon, which can be purchased for a fee. So much so that the verified mark normally given to politicians and famous people leads to great disasters. The fake account opened on behalf of a company in the past weeks caused a decrease in the stocks with the unrealistic posts on behalf of the company.

Elon Musk paused the paid blue tick service on the confusion. However, on November 29, it announced that the feature will be available for purchase again for $ 7.99. According to the statements made by experts, this move may lead to various frauds and brand imitations on Twitter.
