The chaos that started after Twitter announced that it would make blue ticks for a fee, seems to be mixed with different ticks in different colors.

After the first attempt of the verification system that Twitter tried to implement under the name “Power to People” failed, Elon Musk said that he will temporarily introduce a new multi-color verification system next week.

The new owner of Twitter said that under this program, companies will receive golden ticks and government officials will receive blue ticks, while blue ticks will be allocated to individuals, even if they are not celebrities, possibly similar to the “official” checkmark that he is currently testing on some key accounts. This means that the blue checkmark will be used by old verified accounts and people who bought Twitter’s new $8 monthly paid plan.

Musk added that the company aims to manually verify all verifications before the new verification system goes live. However, it’s unclear what he means by that as Twitter Blue subscribers will receive a blue checkmark. On top of that, Twitter’s reduced workforce will be under pressure to manually check every verification to avoid any spoofing or spam.

In addition, Musk explained that individuals can have a second small logo to indicate whether they are part of a particular organization. This organization needs to verify that the individual represents or works with them in some way. He added that the decision to apply a blue checkmark to all individual accounts was made because a person’s reputation is a subjective matter.

Earlier this month, Musk paused the revamped Twitter Blue program and said it would resume on November 29. However, the Tesla CEO suspended that plan earlier this week “until we stop phishing at a high level.”

It is unknown whether this new verification scheme will happen at the same time as the Twitter Blue re-release. Re-enablement of this verification may be for existing verified accounts, companies and government officials, not for paid subscribers for now.
