Squid Game, a South Korean drama, action and dystopia series, depicting the situations that a person who is desperate for money or who thinks he is helpless can fall into, has attracted great attention around the world since it was released on Netflix on September 17. Netflix recently announced that by sharing the data of the series, it reached 111 million users and broke the record.

Built on a critique of order, the series becomes interesting for the audience by referring to socio-economic conditions, social systems and political impasses. It promises a different experience to the audience not only in terms of its subject but also visually. Of course, the background of these productions should also be taken into account. It can be predicted that the shooting of the game scenes, which are watched with pleasure and especially add excitement to the series, is not easy for both the technical team and the actors and actresses. Lee Jung-jae, who won the sympathy of the audience with his character Gi-hun in the drama and is one of the leading actors of the series, explained which of the scenes in the drama had the most difficulty in shooting.

“The encounter was the most difficult, both physically and emotionally”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the successful actor said that his character’s encounter with Sang-woo, his childhood friend and whom he had to betray, exhausted him both physically and emotionally. Stating that the characters Gi-hun and Sang-woo are close friends, Lee said, “Gi-hun was hurt by all these games. And he knew that in order to survive, he had to admit that he had cheated on others, so he was disappointed that he had betrayed himself and his close friend Sang-woo. These two characters are childhood friends and fight each other when their lives are in danger. That’s why the scene was so heartbreaking. It was very difficult emotionally.”

Stating that they were especially tired due to the weather conditions while filming the scene in question, Lee also spoke about the possibility of the second season of the series and said, “Since I got a lot of love and support from the audience, of course, if there is a second season, I have to play it again. But at this stage, I don’t know anything about how the story will develop, how the characters will change, or whether new characters will be added to the series.”
