Building an iPhone requires a successful combination of multiple suppliers that supply different parts to Apple. These supplied parts also include screens. As you know, Apple has been using OLED panels on iPhones for a while and is in partnership with Samsung, the leading company in the field. New information shows that this partnership will grow even more.

70% of iPhone 14’s screens are Samsung’s

According to TheElec, Samsung Display is expected to supply more than 70 percent of OLED display panels for the iPhone 14 series. Apple has reportedly ordered around 120 million OLED panels for the iPhone 14 series this year. Of the 120 million, Samsung Display is expected to supply around 80 million OLED displays. Other display suppliers, including Apple’s LG Display and BOE, will supply 20 million and 6 million OLED displays, respectively.

Samsung has a more technologically advantageous position compared to other suppliers such as LG Display and BOE. Because LG produces only one LTPS screen for the iPhone 14 and LTPO screens for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. On the other hand, BOE supplies LTPS screens to standard iPhone 14 models. However, Samsung Display can provide the panels that all iPhone models in the series need by itself.

According to TheElec, about 60 million of the 80 million display units shipped by Samsung will be used for the high-end iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. Another reason why Samsung is Apple’s largest supplier of OLED displays is that LG Display is facing manufacturing issues.
