Samsung signs deal with Nvidia and Qualcomm
Samsung launched the 3-nanometer chip manufacturing process earlier this year to take the lead against TSMC. On the other hand, TSMC is the world’s largest chip maker, controlling more than half of the market, and is also in a strong position in its own 3nm process. On the other hand, Samsung has a hard time catching up with the Taiwanese company despite enormous resources, and information from sources close to the company is reported that the desired efficiency cannot be achieved in 3nm technology. In addition, Samsung promises an advanced transistor type called gate all around (GAA), which it developed with IBM in 3nm chips.
We can say that this partially confirms the “productivity” problem we mentioned in our previous news. On the other hand, this timeline seems to be normal for 3 nanometer products. Because TSMC’s first 3nm production will only be for Apple iPhones next year. For other important partners such as TSMC and AMD, it will use 3nm bands in 2024.
