A man was stopped at the Richmond International Airport security checkpoint after an X-ray machine showed a knife hidden inside his laptop.

On Friday, November 11, a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer working on the airport checkpoint X-ray machine saw what looked like a knife in a passenger’s handbag. The bag was searched, but the attendants could not find the knife. Thereupon, each item in the bag was separated and passed through the X-ray device again.

A fine is given

The resulting image showed that the knife was inside the passenger’s laptop (thought to be a Gigabyte Aorus gaming computer). TSA officers disassembled the laptop and found a double-edged knife hidden inside the computer. The suspect first said he didn’t know there was a knife inside his laptop. However, he later admitted that the knife belonged to him.

According to TSA’s policy, double-edged knives, daggers, throwing stars (including 3D-printed ninja stars), axes, meat cleavers and other sharper objects can result in fines ranging from $390 to $10,700. Further details about the passenger were not disclosed, including his identity, where he was traveling and the purpose of hiding the knife inside his laptop.
