AMD continues to make fun of Nvidia’s melting RTX 4090 card

With the GeForce RTX 40 series, Nvidia decided to switch to the modern PCIe Gen5 power connector, which supports up to 600 W of power. The company offers standard PCIe 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors that have been successfully used for years, even by high-end custom RTX 30 designs.

With the GeForce RTX 40 series, Nvidia decided to switch to the modern PCIe Gen5 power connector, which supports up to 600 W of power. The company has thus abandoned the standard PCIe 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors that have been successfully used for years, even by high-end custom RTX 30 designs.

All Nvidia Ada Lovelace GPUs come with this new 12VHPWR/16-pin power connector, including the company’s own Founders Edition and all common designs. Unfortunately for all parties involved, problems with some power adapters melting down, either due to user error or something not yet approved by NVIDIA, are not out of the question.

“Stay safe”

On the other hand, AMD announced at the launch that it will continue to use traditional 8-pin power connectors in the Radeon RX 7000 series. Now, Sasa Marinkovic, AMD’s senior director of game marketing, made a reference to Nvidia on the social media platform for the 16-pin connectors meltdown on the RTX 4090. “Stay safe this holiday season,” Marinkovic tweeted, showing the dual 8-pin connector.

Cables keep melting

However, Nvidia continues to encounter reports from users encountering the problem of melting power cables / connectors on their RTX 4090 graphics cards. Nvidia’s research on the subject continues. In the meantime, let’s also mention that there is no RTX 4080 that has encountered this problem so far.
