Powering the majority of the mobile world with chipsets today, Qualcomm has managed to attract all the attention with its giant announcements. At the 2022 Snapdragon Technology Summit, Qualcomm announced its new CPU to compete with Apple’s top-end processors such as the M2.

On the other hand, Qualcomm’s new chip was not the only big announcement the company made. Let’s take a closer look at the innovations that Qualcomm will bring into our lives in the near future.

New CPU to compete with Apple processors: Qualcomm Orion

Continuing to lead with the Snapdragon series to date, Qualcomm will now include the Orion CPU in the future flagship Snapdragon chipsets. Qualcomm has not yet shared detailed information about the features of the new processor model. However, it is known that these processors will have ARM architecture.

The company shared that only the new Orion chips will be used in Windows computers, smartphones, digital cockpits, advanced driver assistance systems, augmented reality (XR) and infrastructure solutions. In addition, it was stated that artificial intelligence and 5G technologies will be of great importance for the processor.

It has been announced that the developments about the chip will be shared in 2023. Therefore, the new processor is expected to be seen on devices in 2024. Whether the processor to be released on this date will compete with Apple’s M3 or M4 processors at that time will remain a matter of curiosity for now.

The new processor for augmented reality glasses has been introduced:

Along with its new processor for the Snapdragon platform, Qualcomm also introduced its new processor for augmented reality glasses. The new processor will be called Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1. The processor will offer 50% better power consumption and 2.5 times better artificial intelligence performance than the previous generation XR2 Gen 1 platform.

According to the shared details, Snapdragon AR2 is currently sent to Lenovo, LG, Nreal, OPPO, Pico, QONOQ, Rokid, Sharp, TCL, Vuzix and Xiaomi, and glasses are being developed with this processor.

Extending its partnership with Adobe:

Qualcomm also shared that it will expand its partnership with Adobe at the summit. With the new partnership, it was stated that ‘creative experiences’ will be supported on devices with Snapdragon processors. In this context, especially augmented reality experiences and the development process of these experiences will be improved.

However, Windows computers with Snapdragon processors will now host Adobe Fresco and Adobe Acrobat software as standard.
