Meta’s social media platform Facebook is going through a significant change on its profile page. The company has announced that it will remove some of the information that has been in the biography section on the page for years. The change in question received backlash on social media.
This information will not be in the Facebook user profile.
Facebook allows users to put information about themselves on their own pages. In this section, which is called the biography section, many details can be written, from the person’s profession to his address.
Meta, the umbrella company of Facebook, announced that the “sexual orientation”, “religious opinion”, “political opinion” and “address” fields in the bio section of the user’s profile will be removed. So much so that this decision of the company caused great controversy on social media.
The controversial change will take effect from 1 December. The company did not make any statement on the subject. However, estimates indicate that this information, which can be seen by other people, may lead to the exclusion of the user.
Meta continues to make radical decisions
Along with the profile change on Facebook, Meta continues to make radical decisions. The company laid off 11 thousand employees, corresponding to 13 percent, due to declining revenues. It also announced that it will not hire new staff until the first quarter of 2023.
As a matter of fact, this dismissal decision came as little surprise. Because if we look at the revenue report shared by Meta, it reported a record loss in the third quarter of 2022. The company lost $730 billion in 16 months, receding to a market value of $270 billion. At the same time, company shares hit their lowest level since 2016.
Although Meta has been very harmful, especially due to Metaverse investments, the company’s director, Mark Zuckerberg, says that the work will bear fruit in ten years.
