We haven’t had a chance to really experience the console-quality graphics that Qualcomm features in every new flagship chip introduction, but something seems to be changing with ray tracing.

Ray tracing in the mobile world

Ray tracing, which we see on desktop graphics cards, can simulate light reflections in the most realistic way. Thus, very realistic visuals emerge. In fact, Samsung deserves applause in this regard, because although it was not very successful, it included ray-traced Radeon graphics in the Exynos 2200 chipset. Later, ARM, MediaTek and Qualcomm also joined this race.

Oppo also had a surprise at the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 presentation. A demo game developed under the name Camp Guard revealed the advantages of mobile ray tracing. More realistic visuals, reflections, ripples show that a visual feast awaits us. Objects behind the scenes can also be processed in this game. Supported by the PhysRay Engine 2.0 driver, the game could be played at 720p 60fps for about 30 minutes at room temperature.

Now we seem very close to seeing really console quality graphics. Developers will take this quality to much better points than today’s level with new optimization methods.
