Jeff Bezos said he plans to donate most of his billions of dollars to philanthropic causes during his lifetime. Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has committed to doing so for the first time after years of criticism for charitable philanthropy compared to the world’s richest people.

Jeff Bezos said he plans to use most of his wealth to fight climate change and support social “connectors”. According to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index, Bezos is worth about $124 billion. Bezos used to be the richest person in the world, but as Amazon shares fell, his net worth shrank, dropping him to the fourth-richest position. Bezos was worth over $200 billion when Amazon broke an all-time record value of $188.11 a share last year.

“Charity and starting a company are similar things”

“There are so many ways to do charity work ineffectively,” Bezos said. So you have to think very carefully and have great people on your team.” According to Bezos, philanthropy needs to be studied and managed effectively, just like starting and running Amazon.

The billionaire name states that he will carefully examine the donations and charitable works he will do and will proceed by creating a methodology. Bezos did not participate in the Giving Pledge deal, which was a promise from some of the world’s richest people to donate most of their wealth to charities. Giving Pledge is an organization created by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. On the other hand, Bezos has committed to donate $10 billion to the Bezos Earth Fund, which he founded, and has donated nearly $1 billion.

Bezos, on the other hand, is thought to have donated roughly $2.5 billion in his lifetime. His ex-wife Mackenzie Scott, whom he divorced in 2019, is quite generous. Scott has donated $12.8 billion since 2020.
