Previously, thanks to this device, we have encountered many news such as the discovery of the stolen electric scooter by its owner. This time, an Apple AirTag owner, who had his car stolen, was able to locate and retrieve the vehicle, despite the thief’s finding and throwing the product.
AirTag caught the car thief!
A Reddit user whose car was stolen explained on the forum that AirTag helped the police track and find the car:
I am a night owl. I like to drive around at night, especially around 3 o’clock. One day, I went to my car to go for a ride again. However, my 2010 Subaru Forester was missing. Then I called the police, as anyone would do, and I was given a report. Subsequently, they said they weren’t too optimistic about my chances of getting my car back.
After it calmed down, I remembered that I had put one of the AirTags I bought as a 4-pack in my car’s sunglasses holder. Frankly, I thought there was no chance of finding my car. But since I had no other choice and there were millions of iPhone users in Chicagoland, I wanted to take my chance.
I marked the AirTag as lost on my iPhone. About 10 minutes later, a notification came that he was in one of Chicago’s suburban areas. I immediately left and called the police and explained the situation. When the officers arrived, they couldn’t find my car in the Walmart parking lot where the signal came from. So, I thought the thief had found the device and threw it out of the vehicle, and I started looking around. At that time, luckily, the cops saw the suspect return to the parking lot with my car. The person in the vehicle was then taken into custody.
The person whose car was stolen summed up the situation after his misfortune with the words “It was a crazy experience thanks to AirTags”. He said that the first thing he would do after he got his car back was to hide the device in a hard-to-find place so that it wouldn’t prevent it from sending signals inside the car.
