The 2022 FIFA World Cup excitement is less than a week away. As football fans prepare to support their teams, privacy experts warn about data security for game-goers.

Installing these apps is mandatory!

Football fans first need to install two apps on their phones. First; Ehteraz, a Covid-19 tracking system. Latter; Hayya, which allows fans to enter the stadium areas and use public transport for free.

They reach everything

After analyzing the access permissions of the applications, digital security organizations detected details that violated privacy in both applications.

Launched in Qatar before the matches, Ehteraz requests the user’s permission to access photos and videos, expose the device to spam calls, and even view and modify device data. Hayya, on the other hand, wants full network access and unlimited access to personal data. Both apps track the user’s location.

Experts: Use disposable phones

Privacy experts recommend that World Cup participants not install match apps on their personal devices and use disposable/disposable phones.

Where and when is the 2022 FIFA World Cup?

The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December. In the 22nd FIFA World Cup tournament, matches will be played in 8 different stadiums in 5 different cities.
