The Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vedat Bilgin, who attended an event organized within the body of the Confederation of Turkish Employers’ Unions, made a striking statement about the brain drain, one of the most painful realities of Turkey. Minister Bilgin stated that it is wrong to interpret the situation of students going abroad from Turkey as “they want to escape from Turkey”.

According to Minister Vedat Bilgin, the main reason why students want to go to different countries is they want to know the world. Moreover, the desire to go abroad is higher among educated youth. Saying that this situation should be considered quite normal, Vedat Bilgin stated that there is nothing to worry about.

“They have the knowledge and equipment to know the world”

Vedat Bilgin, Minister of Labor and Social Security, used the following statements at the event he attended:

Youth is our greatest assurance for the future. Currently, Turkey has 30 thousand young people doing their doctorate abroad. If you go to the best universities in the world and meet a Turkish youth there. You should not worry about them. Those who return are more than those who stay there. Turkey is not the old Turkey. Someone with a specialization in genetic biology used to be unable to find a place to work when he returned. There was no genetic laboratory. Now, our country has enterprises, production facilities and laboratories that have invested in every field. The enthusiasm of young people to go abroad is higher among educated youth. It is natural for young people to have this desire. It should not be looked at as “they want to escape from Turkey”. Young people want to know the world. They have the knowledge and equipment to know the world.

Although Minister Vedat Bilgin has developed a different perspective on students going abroad, the researches show that there is a brain drain in Turkey. According to research, 3 out of 4 young people between the ages of 18-29 want to leave Turkey and live in another country. We should not ignore this reality. . .
