While almost every non-Apple smartphone and most other portable devices charge via USB-C, Apple stubbornly stuck to its Lightning connector. But it doesn’t have to be like that. A talented robotics student did a special study to show what could happen if an iPhone had a USB-C connection, and it was videotaped and published.
Ken Pillonel has been trying to modify an iPhone to both charge and transfer data over USB-C for a while. Finally he completed his project and got it working. You can watch his result in the YouTube video below.

The iPhone in the video is the iPhone we know, the only difference is that the port under it is USB-C, not Lightning. It starts charging as soon as the charging cable is plugged in.
Of course, you can’t do this kind of modification yourself at home. It is obvious from the video that it is a very difficult and sensitive process that requires technical knowledge. But at least we know it’s possible, and what would happen if Apple gave up its stubbornness in the future and switched to USB-C, now a connectivity standard for mobile devices. . .
