The issue of keeping animals in cages or exhibiting them in cages has been the subject of ethical debates for a long time. Parallel to this, some exhibitions set up for good(!) purposes may encounter the opposite reaction than expected, just like the ‘Van Promotion Days’ event held in Istanbul.
A van cat was exhibited to the visitors in a glass cage at the Van Promotion Days event. There were holes in the glass cage for the cat to breathe, but as most of us know, cats are libertarian animals by their hunting nature, and being in a glass cage does not seem to please the van cat. Because in the video shared from the event, the van cat is seen lying motionless and covered its face with the stress of being locked in a cage.

The fact that the cat was closed in a glass cage and looked extremely unhappy also drew reaction from social media.
According to another tweet, the exhibited van cat wandered around the garden during the day, and was taken into a glass cage for visitors to see during the day.
Known for their white fur and double-colored eyes, Van cats are more sensitive to touch and sound, as they are a naturally deaf breed. Also a good swimmer and an intelligent player, this breed naturally wants to be able to move freely. For this reason, glass cages create much worse conditions for Van cats than for other cats.
