Apple has announced that it will release the new iOS 16.1 version on Monday, October 24th. The new version of the operating system will be available with iPadOS 16 and MacOS Ventura. Along with various bug fixes, iOS 16.1 also brings 8 new features for iPhone users.
iCloud Shared Photo Library
iCloud Shared Photo Library will make it easy for you to share photos with family members or friends in the Photos app. This feature allows up to five people to add and edit photos in a shared library accessible via iCloud.
Live Events for Third-Party Apps
iOS 16.1 extends Live Events to third-party apps in the App Store. This feature allows iPhone users to follow real-time events like match score or food order directly on the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island.
Charging with clean energy
iOS 16.1 includes a new Clean Energy Charging feature that Apple says aims to “reduce the iPhone’s carbon footprint by optimizing charging times for when the grid uses cleaner energy sources.” It is worth remembering that this feature is only available in the USA.
Apple Fitness+ Without Apple Watch
Apple Fitness+ is available to iPhone users without an Apple Watch as of iOS 16.1, iPadOS 16.1, and tvOS 16.1. Without the Apple Watch, iPhone users couldn’t see real-time metrics like heart rate and calories burned during exercise.
Matter accessories in the Home app
iOS 16.1 introduces Matter, a new connectivity standard that will enable compatible smart home accessories to work seamlessly across multiple platforms, including Apple’s HomeKit, Amazon’s Alexa, and Google’s Home. A HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, or Apple TV HD is required to control Matter accessories with the Home app and Siri.
Apple Card wallet account
Starting with iOS 16.1, Apple Card users will be able to open a “high yield” savings account and have their Daily Cash back rewards automatically credited to the account with no fees, no minimum deposits and no minimum balance requirements. Users will be able to manage their savings accounts in the Wallet application.
Reachability support for Dynamic Island
iOS 16.1 adds Accessibility support for Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro models, making it easy to access with one hand. Accessibility stands out as an optional feature that lowers the top half of the screen. Thus, the phone screen will take on a shape that fingers can easily reach.
Password sharing for Wallet app
iOS 16.1 will allow you to securely share passwords stored in the Wallet app for cars, hotel rooms and more via messaging apps like Messages and WhatsApp.
The important innovations that Apple will bring with iOS 16 are listed in this way. So what do you think about the new version of the operating system? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
