South Korean news outlet Naver revealed that the company submitted a patent for the smart ring to the US Patent and Trademark Office in October last year. The patent in question shows that the new Samsung smart ring will include an optical blood flow measurement sensor (PPG) and an electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor to measure blood pressure and heart rate.
Samsung is also working on a few extra features that will allow users to control connected devices such as laptops, smartphones and TVs with the smart ring to compete with other smart rings on the market. In addition, the new ring may offer support for other health and fitness monitoring features found on the Galaxy Watch 5, including temperature sensing, sleep monitoring, and SpO2 monitoring.Samsung did not share any official information about the smart ring model under development.
