We had the opportunity to examine the BMW XM at the event we attended in the USA. The M Department, which produces high-performance vehicles of the Bavarian manufacturer, celebrates its 50th anniversary with the BMW XM. The model, which was introduced last summer, is getting ready to hit the road in 2023 with its hybrid engine producing 653 horsepower and 800 Nm torque and its extraordinary design.
The second M model to come 50 years after BMW!
Having the title of being the first original M car produced since BMW’s iconic M1 model, the BMW XM also draws attention as the first rechargeable hybrid engine vehicle in M history. The BMW XM carries traces of the future with its large dimensions, muscular structure, aggressive stance and striking design.
The double-piece lighting group, which forms the new front of BMW and which we see in the high-end models of the brand, also finds its place in the XM. In addition to this lighting group, BMW’s illuminated large kidney grilles also support the powerful stance of the vehicle.
This strong stance in the front part of the vehicle is carried to the rear part as well. The thin LED taillights, which we are accustomed to seeing from the new models of the brand, also show themselves here, while the vertically positioned dual exhaust outlets reflect the performance of the vehicle. The spoiler and rear diffuser with a different design also support this design.
BMW XM continues the characteristic structure of the brand in the interior as well. The model, which hosts the BMW Curved with a dual-screen layout, is accompanied by a 12.3-inch digital display screen and a 14.9-inch touchscreen multimedia screen. The infotainment system offered with BMW Operating System 8 also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
The Bowers & Wilkins sound system with ceiling-mounted speakers in the BMW XM once again reminds us how special the car is. With the BMW IconicSounds Electric created by the famous composer Hans Zimmer, the driving pleasure of the BMW XM is multiplied.
Under the hood of the new SUV model, there is a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that can produce 490 horsepower. The electric motor of the vehicle offers an extra 163 horsepower. A first in M history, the M HYBRID unit thus achieves a total power output of 653 horsepower and 800 Nm. The new SUV model can transfer its power to all four wheels with an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission.
This powerful SUV model completes 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 4.3 seconds. The BMW XM carries compactly designed high-voltage lithium-ion battery packs under its body. In this way, the rechargeable hybrid model also offers an electric range of 80 kilometers according to the WLPT cycle.
