Oracle’s VirtualBox is a free software program that allows you to run virtual machines on devices with Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems. A new beta version has recently arrived for this application, which cannot be used by Macs with Apple Silicon chip. When the first Apple Silicon Macs were announced in 2020, setting up virtual machines on devices was challenging. Especially when it comes to Windows virtual machines. However, with the VirtualBox 7.0 beta, which is new to VirtualBox, it is now easier to set up and run virtual machines on Macs with M1 and M2 processors.
VirtualBox 7.0, which is in development by Oracle as stated in the update’s official release notes, also brings some other important improvements. For example, virtual machines can now be fully encrypted and cloud virtual machines can be managed as local machines. Also adding DirectX 11 support for better 3D graphics on Windows, the new version drops support for legacy kernel extensions on macOS for more modern APIs.
Saying that the new version makes the cloud network functionality more reliable for local virtual machines, Oracle also fixed a large list of bugs with the 7.0 update. If you want to download VitualBox 7.0 beta, you can find it here.
