Initial sales of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus fell short of the company’s expectations despite the massive backlash against the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models, DigiTimes reports, citing supply chain sources.
DigiTimes sources expect total iPhone 14 model shipments this year to be roughly on par with the iPhone 13 series in the second half of 2021, despite the sales differences between the regular and Pro models.
Worse than iPhone 13 mini
But if iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus sales are low in the near term, Apple may cut production. If the company cuts orders more aggressively than expected, total shipments of the iPhone 14 series by the end of the year could even lag behind the iPhone 13 series from the same period last year.
Apple was expected to produce around 90 million new iPhones in the second half of 2022, but that figure could drop to 80 million due to “heavy demand”. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also said that demand for the two devices was weak and pre-order results were worse than the third-generation iPhone SE and iPhone 13 mini.
