Rings of Power Series Season Finale Review

Okay, TV shows don’t air 26 episodes a season like they used to, they come to the platforms for a maximum of two months and make the season finale, but the series has more or less the same viewing time as the Lord of the Rings trilogy. We did not wait for 19 years in vain, from fire and stars, to be tested with a flimsy imitation. The first season of the show is disappointing.

How can the comic book writing technique not be adapted to the series?

In comic book writing, there is a phrase called “show, don’t tell”. If you’ve noticed, comics have either thought bubbles, information boxes with inscriptions like “1785, Nevada” or something, or speech bubbles. Because, in a comic book, it is not written “Jack McAllister was loading his gun while watching the Indians from afar”, we see McAllister looking at distant native images while he is loading his gun.

Even if the Rings of Power wanted to follow a similar logic, that didn’t happen, at least in the first season. The series is very good at showing things; The props, costumes, CGI are almost complete and probably the best we’ll see in a long time. It is very nice to have clothes and equipment suitable for different cultures of different races, and the color palettes chosen.

Let’s see, this visual feast is not at the end of the first season, but making us understand what we are watching, even in the Lord of the Rings stories we know causes confusion. As we wait for Gandalf to arrive at the dawn of the fifth day, we continue to wait for the series to recover. So they misunderstood the expression “tell” in comic book writing. If they would at least tell about the characters that Amazon added like Halbrand, it’s still a little bit, but that’s not there either.

The first season of the series may not have given what was expected, but this does not mean that it cannot recover in the remaining 4 seasons. That’s why it seems like a more reasonable idea to focus on what they can do better in the new seasons after this article. The first problem with this series was neither the broken timeline nor the beardless dwarf women as many peoples nor the black elves. The main problem of the show is cowardice, nothing else. However, the readable reaction of millions of fans is worse than the producer that the heart fears.

We see that in many scenes, in many fictions, symbols, narration techniques, and methods of constructing a scenario framework, which were first taught in the world of cinema, are used. Even the shooting angles are almost as if they were taken from the books. When these scenes were put one after the other like sketches, they thought it would be a series, but it didn’t happen.

Look, the plot is so disconnected, complex and far from efficient. There is nothing we can spoil about the series, as there is no well-told plot, no development of a character, no progression. There is a friend named Arondir, who, like Aşk-ı Memnu Beşir from the first minute of the series, hangs around with his shyly in love attitude. Galadriel, on the other hand, makes strange decisions and keeps dragging the story in the desired direction. Well, after all, the writers thought of this character as someone who thinks it’s a reasonable idea to try to swim in the ocean with a sword in hand, so whatever we write is useless.

If the problem is just timeline shifts or space-time disconnected events, they can somehow pick it up, but from the second season onwards, they have to tie all the open ends and build a new plot. Because right now, there is no story and no tempo. At least we say that there are dialogues, they are in the consistency of cool words to make reels and share on Instagram rather than telling an epic epic. They couldn’t even place the Earth properly. On the one hand, a very big and majestic land is tried to be described, on the other hand, everything is thrown on top of each other that the whole Middle Earth seems like a place like Yalova.

Evaluating the audience with the wrong statistics…

Okay, the majority want to know what will be put in front of them at the table before they sit down, and those who are trying to prepare the feast wish to keep it a secret; because curiosity makes compliments go louder. We know what the meal is here, but we are not sure whether this meal will come out together with the ingredients in front of us.

These data could also indicate that viewers are now more intelligent, able to solve more complex events, discuss these events with communities and increase their interaction. Besides, there is no story from scratch here, this is the Lord of the Rings story. It is a production that we already know in general terms, and that we can learn immediately if we do not know. In other words, the audience seems to have been misjudged, and the fact that the production team said “We learned a lot from the first season” is actually proof of this.

So how can the Rings of Power series be repackaged?

One should not give advice without thinking it through; because advice, even if given from a sage to a sage, is a dangerous gift and any road can turn bad. Moreover, neither I am wise nor Amazon officials act on my word.

After this moment in the series, Galadriel said, “I’ve been chasing Orcs for how many centuries, how can I not see them coming right under my nose, is there magic involved, is it intervention from outside or inside, or has my anger clouded my vision like a dark cloud that freezes the dew on a leaf one morning?” If Elrond pursues a double hunt, if Elrond makes alliances by manipulating delicate balances of power instead of personal relationships, if a chain of unexpected events is established where weaker characters will travel and develop together, then the series will at least have a certain plot, and each character’s place in the timeline can be determined. .

It may be possible to connect this from one point without damaging the Lord of the Rings world, which we love. For example, according to The Silmarillion, Sauron makes 20 rings. One of these rings is his own ring, and the remaining 19 are those he will use to rule the elves. When the elves wear the ring, they realize his plan and hide the rings. Sauron, who managed to find 16 rings, gave these rings to dwarves and humans. A story to be connected from here can both make the story interesting throughout the season and create a coherent ending.

At the end of 4 seasons, the story will be tied to the siege of Barad Dur, which is tied by a thread until the last second, at least “The first season is bad, but it opens later.” it may thicken. (This plot was written in 1 minute, let’s hope they get better in 2 years.)
