Devcon, the largest Ethereum developer conference, continues in Bogota, the capital city of Colombia. Today is the last day of the conference. So, what has happened at the conference so far?
Background of the conference
DevCon, the international congress held annually by the ETH Foundation, has finally arrived in the Colombian capital with its sixth edition. Although DevCon is a once-a-year event, the sixth one has been delayed several times. Originally, the sixth DevCon was to take place in mid-2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic, international travel restrictions, and the impossibility of holding events indoors have emerged. After a while, the organizing team remained determined to hold the congress in Bogota.
Having overcome the hurdles mentioned above, the organization team stated that DevCon 6 will officially take place on October 11 of this year. The event started on October 11 and today (October 14) is the last day. It was held at the Ágora Convention Centre. So, what has happened so far, what has been discussed?
Ethereum co-founder speaks
On the first day of the event, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin gave a presentation where he talked about the nature of Ethereum and cryptocurrencies/blockchains in general. The title of the presentation was “Ethereum in 30 Minutes”. The founder also talked about Merge, which took place last month. As we reported as Kriptokoin.com, Ethereum has moved from a proof-of-work (PoW) consensus mechanism to a proof-of-stake (PoS). This transition was called a merge.
In other words, it pointed to the merger of the Beacon Chain and the Ethereum mainnet, where PoS was previously operational. Buterin also touched on the post-merge updates (The Surge, The Verge, The Purge and The Spurge). On the other hand, developer Tim Beiko stated that everything is fine with Merge. On October 12, Josh Stark gave a presentation on the Ethereum Foundation. Also, Gitcoin DAO member Connor O’Day gave a speech.
Besides a main stage for general conferences, the space consisted of smaller rooms for more private talks and presentations. For this reason, the participants had the chance to choose speeches and workshops on their special interests. Generally speaking, the speakers consisted of Tim Beiko (main developer), Danny Ryan (Ethereum Foundation researcher), Aya Miyaguchi (Ethereum Foundation CEO) and Vitalik Buterin (co-founder). The speakers addressed the technical issues associated with the development and operation of the protocol. They highlighted Merge’s major operational milestone for the network.
