Google started using its own processor with the Pixel 6 series it introduced last year. Google Tensor produced in partnership with Samsung; Although it did not offer as much performance as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the affordable price of the Pixel 6 series put this problem in the background. However, the biggest problem of the Tensor processor in many respects was that it was produced in Samsung’s 5nm fabrication process and lagged behind its competitors in energy efficiency. The Tensor G2 processor to be used in the Pixel 7 series seemed to be produced in the 4nm fabrication process in line with the leaks for months, but apparently Google is saving this update for the next year.

Tensor G2 processor manufactured in 5nm fabrication process

Introduced in the Pixel 7 series, Tensor G2 was similar to the first generation Tensor processor in many ways, but small performance increases and possible energy efficiency increased the interest in the processor. The Tensor G2, which was listed on Geekbench a long time ago, was considered to be produced in Samsung’s 4nm fabrication process, but Google denied this.

Noticing some errors in the Geekbench listings, Android Authority consulted Google to get clearer information about Pixel 7. The company gave Android Authority information about the new generation Tensor. Google has confirmed that the Tensor G2 processor is manufactured on the 5nm process and stated that the chipset will show a performance increase in machine learning processes. It looks like Google will once again lag behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 that debuted last year. Considering that the Tensor G2 processor has higher clock speeds than the previous generation, we can expect the Pixel 7 series to stay in class in energy consumption.
