The integrated GPU in AMD’s next-generation Ryzen 7000 processors can be significantly overclocked with very little effort thanks to MSI’s new BIOS version. The new BIOS version also provides new features and access opportunities, providing some convenience to users who want more specific settings.

TopPC, which is a part of MSI and has a reputation for overclocking, touched on what MSI’s updated BIOS version brings for Ryzen 7000 processors in its new video. The thermal limit profiles tested with the first and foremost PBO Enhanced Mode catch our eye. This new feature allows us to lower temperatures on MSI’s X670E and X670 motherboards with minimal compromise on performance.

By activating the Performance Switch feature under the OC menu, these predefined profiles or completely manual adjustments can be accessed. So these profiles will be extremely important for overclocking. In addition, MSI’s Performance Switch feature provides better results compared to both AMD PBO and manual overclocking.

MSI will also offer AVX control options for Ryzen 7000 processors on AM5 motherboards. Currently, AVX512 support is enabled by default on all Ryzen 7000 processors and there is no option to disable it. With the new BIOS version, there are options to disable or enable all AVX modes (AVX2/AVX512).

RDNA 2 iGPU on Ryzen 7000 processors can be overclocked

MSI has recently added the overclocking option for RDNA 2 iGPUs, which we refer to as integrated graphics unit, to the BIOS version. All Ryzen 7000 processors have an RDNA 2 iGPU with 2 processing units and a single WGP (128 cores). However, we have to point out that the iGPU shares the same voltage as the CPU, so overclocking can affect CPU performance and overclocking.
The integrated graphics unit, which runs at 2.2 GHz by default, can be easily overclocked to 3 GHz thanks to the options offered by MSI in the current BIOS version. In the system with DDR5 4800 MHz memory, when the RDNA 2 chip is increased to 3 GHz, a performance increase of 20 percent is achieved. This performance increase increases in parallel when faster memory is used. On the other hand, it should be noted that the RDNA 2 iGPU in Ryzen 7000 processors is not for gaming and one should not expect a gaming performance.
