Power supply manufacturer Enermax has listed the graphics cards that are currently available on its website and that have not been introduced yet. The power supply calculation tool for graphics cards offered by Enermax makes it easy for us to have an idea about GeForce RTX 40 and Radeon RX 7000 series cards.

On the Nvidia side, the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 (16 GB and 12 GB) have already been announced and the details have been officially shared. However, a statement and release date has not yet been announced by Nvidia about the lower models of the RTX 40 series, the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060. On the other hand, AMD’s RX 7000 series will be introduced next month and enter our lives.

RX 7000 and RTX 40 series are close in power consumption

We do not know whether Enermax, which includes the new generation graphics cards of both AMD and Nvidia in the PSU calculation tool, has technical information about these cards or is just basing the suggestions on speculation. Therefore, assuming the following figures to be correct can be misleading.

Power requirement of GeForce RTX 40 series cards

Starting from Nvidia’s side, Enermax’s tool shows that an 850W power supply is required for the RTX 4090 (450W). Nvidia was already officially recommending the 850W power supply for the RTX 4090, so it’s not surprising.
  • GeForce RTX 4090: 853W PSU (GPU TDP ~450W)
  • GeForce RTX 4080: 720W PSU (GPU TDP ~320-285W)
  • GeForce RTX 4070: 684W PSU (GPU TDP ~285W)
  • GeForce RTX 4060: 598W PSU (GPU TDP ~200W)

On the RTX 4080 side, 320W and 285W TDP values were announced for 16 GB and 12 GB models. Therefore, based on official TDP values, we can say that Enermax’s test system (Core i9 12900KF, motherboard, 32GB DDR5 RAM, Corsair liquid cooling and an M.2 SSD) consumes 400W of power.

Power requirement of Radeon RX 7000 cards

There are also four Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards listed: RX 7950XT, RX 7900XT, RX 7800XT and RX 7700XT. Based on the same method, we can estimate the TDP of these cards.
  • Radeon RX 7950XT: 822W PSU (GPU TBP ~420W)
  • Radeon RX 7900XT: 730W PSU (GPU TBP ~330W)
  • Radeon RX 7800XT: 700W PSU (GPU TBP ~300W)
  • Radeon RX 7700XT: 598W PSU (GPU TBP ~200W)

At this time, neither AMD nor Nvidia have confirmed the wattage figures for the unreleased GPUs listed by Enermax. However, as AMD prepares to unveil the Radeon RX 7000 series on November 3, Nvidia will launch the RTX 4090 next week and the RTX 4080 series next month. There is no date yet for the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060.
