With the use of the internet skyrocketing, every person in the world now uses messaging methods to communicate with each other. WhatsApp and Telegram are also among the most prominent platforms in this regard. Of course, the reliability of such applications used by so many people comes to the fore from time to time.

Now, a statement has come from the co-founder of Telegram on this subject. 37-year-old billionaire entrepreneur Pavel Durov made striking statements about WhatsApp and said that its biggest competitors are not secure.

“Stay away from WhatsApp if you don’t want your device to be hijacked”

Durov, one of the founders of Telegram, which has more than 700 million active users, made controversial statements, stating that people should stay away from WhatsApp if they do not want their devices to be hijacked by attackers. According to the Independent’s report, the entrepreneur referred to a vulnerability shared by WhatsApp last week that allowed a hacker to take over a user’s phone by sending a malicious video.

Making a statement from Telegram, Durov said, “Hackers can access everything (!) on the phones of WhatsApp users. Every year we hear about issues on WhatsApp that put users’ devices at risk. You don’t have to be the richest person in the world. If you have WhatsApp installed on your phone, all data in all applications on your phone can be accessed.

WhatsApp recently shared that it discovered two critical vulnerabilities. The platform, which updated its Security Advice page, stated that the first vulnerability allows third parties to make video calls on your behalf, and the second allows malicious code to be integrated into the videos sent and these codes to work. It was also among the explanations that the vulnerabilities were fixed and users needed to update.

Durov’s harsh statements about the platform followed. The entrepreneur also stated that he does not force people to switch to Telegram, the platform does not need it. Finally, Pavlov added, “You can use any messaging app you want, but stay away from WhatsApp”.

So, isn’t WhatsApp really safe?

Operating under the umbrella of Meta, WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption, just like Telegram’s secret chats, and therefore describes it as very secure. The platform also says on its site that users’ messages and calls are safe with this feature, and that no one can interfere. It is stated that even WhatsApp itself does not have access to critical information.

According to Business Insider, WhatsApp always has encryption on every chat. This reveals that the platform has much more advanced security than other channels such as Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter. The giant messaging app has been outspoken about security issues before.

To summarize, we cannot say that any messaging application is completely safe. However, WhatsApp, which has more than 2 billion users, is considered more secure than others due to the advanced security methods it uses.
