Seen as the pioneer of electric cars, Tesla recently announced that it broke a new record by announcing its sales figures in the third quarter of 2022. If you remember, 1 million Tesla cars were recalled in the past weeks on the grounds that they could cause injury to the driver and passengers.

In the company’s statement today, it was announced that the vehicles that will be produced in the future will not have the ultrasonic sensors found in every vehicle today. So what do these sensors do and why will they be removed?

These sensors have vital functions in every vehicle nowadays

Ultrasonic sensors are present in almost every vehicle today, and these sensors actually have multiple functions. These sensors play a major role in the active operation of vital systems in vehicles such as parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, driver support systems, and automatic braking systems. Tesla officials announced that they will remove these sensors from many Tesla models in Europe, North America and the Middle East starting this month.

By using the ultrasonic sound waves of these sensors, it allows you to detect obstacles in front and behind you and increase the safety of your vehicle.

So why are these sensors being removed?

Although Tesla’s removal of these sensors may seem like a “cost cut” move at first, it is not actually the case. Tesla engineers announced that they want to use the vehicle’s cameras and special software in all scenarios where ultrasonic sound sensors are used, thanks to the system they have newly developed and tested. According to the engineers, this new technology “radar” system can detect objects much faster than old-fashioned sensors and transmit them to the vehicle’s computer. These millisecond speeds can save lives at high speed or in an emergency.

However, of course, although this system has been tested, it is not known how reliable it is. Many Tesla users think that Tesla, which has a bad history about the functionality of its features, will fail in this new radar system in the first place.

Tesla officials announced that Model 3, Y, S and X, which will start to be produced from this month, will hit the roads in 2023.
