READING NOW AMD’s next-generation Zen 5 architecture revealed

Along with Ryzen 7000 processors, new generation Zen 4 processors started to enter our computers. But the first information about AMD’s next processor architecture, Zen 5, continues to come. The Zen 5 architecture displayed on HWiNFO draws attention with its early software support.

AMD’s first Zen 4 processor family, codenamed Raphael, has recently appeared to consumers as the Ryzen 7000 series. While there are only four processors in the Ryzen 7000 family for now, AMD is preparing to launch Genoa EPYC processors and Phoenix Point / Dragon Range Ryzen mobile processors in parallel with the desktop family. Of course, these processor families will not be the end of the Zen 4 architecture. The company is currently working on custom chips and Zen 4 V-Cache processors based on the existing Zen 4 architecture.

In addition to these, AMD has already been working on the next generation Zen architectures for a while. Therefore, preparations for the next generation, Zen 5, continue without slowing down. HWiNFO is now offering early support for some Zen 5 processor families. But don’t expect to see processors anytime soon, as this support indicates that it can be used mostly by AMD engineers for diagnostics.

AMD Zen 5 release date and specs

  • Zen 4 – 5nm (2022)
  • Zen 4 V-Cache – 5nm (2023)
  • Zen 4C – 4nm (2023)
  • Zen 5 – 4nm (2024)
  • Zen 5 V-Cache – 4nm (2024+)
  • Zen 5C – 3nm – (2024+)

According to AMD, the Zen 5 architecture will debut in 2024. It is uncertain in which quarter the future will come, but it can be mentioned that there is a 2-year period. Zen 5 will also come with 3D V-Cache and optimized Compute Unit and will use 4nm lithography. The intermediate architecture, called Zen 5C, will move to the 3nm production process and take the company one step further in terms of efficiency. On the other hand, we will see Zen 4 3D V-Cache and 4nm Zen 4C architectures next year.

According to the information AMD announced, the Zen 5 architecture will be designed from the ground up with an entirely new microarchitecture focused on performance and efficiency. The architecture will also be specifically optimized for AI and machine learning. In addition, we will probably see the Zen 5 architecture first in the Ryzen 8000 (Granite Ridge) family. In addition, EPYC Turin (6th generation) processors will also be updated with Zen 5.
