The Ethiopian Ministry of Education partnered with IOG to provide Digital ID cards to 750,000 students and teachers in 3680 schools last year.
Launched first at the primary and secondary levels, and then at tertiary institutions, the IDS will depend on a registration system that will be used to verify grades and monitor students’ performance.
Ethiopian officials hope half a million IDs will be released by the end of the year. This initiative also includes a national digital identity program that aims to provide digital identity to 10 million citizens. The number of IDs registered so far is below 100,000.
