We live in a social life among the social units that progress in the form of individuals, families and classes. As individuals, we maintain our social existence in interaction with other individuals and social units around us. Roles, statuses, achievements or achievements in the masses can be a source of pride for the individual. In addition to being a source of pride, they can also open the door to various weaknesses.

A study published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science found that people with higher socioeconomic status consistently scored lower on emotional intelligence tests, especially when they perceived high levels of inequality in their communities.

Less relationships, less emotional intelligence

Researchers conducted an initial study among Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) employees. Participants self-reported their socioeconomic status and then indicated the extent to which they perceived economic inequality in their state. They also took a situational emotional intelligence test. The results revealed that high socioeconomic level was associated with low emotional intelligence.

According to the researchers, higher socioeconomic status and higher subjective inequality support less self-focus, which tends to increase, and less willingness and motivation to participate in the feelings of others. That is, people with higher socioeconomic status are self-sufficient and therefore less in need of relating to others, as they have a greater share of resources and do not have to seek support. This leads to a lower emotional intelligence.
