Apple has announced that from October 5, it will increase the prices of both apps and in-app purchases, excluding auto-renewable subscriptions, in various regions. All regions using the euro currency, Chile, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea, Sweden and Vietnam will be affected by this price increase. Apple says the price increase in Vietman reflects new laws that require the company to collect value-added tax (VAT) and corporate tax.

The amount added to the old prices varies according to the updated pricing tier list published by the tech giant. Apps that currently cost 99 cents will go up to 1.19 euros in eurozones, while apps that cost 4.99 euros will cost more, at 5.99 euros, up by one euro. The surcharge increases as the pricing tier rises. So, for example, purchases that cost 14.99 euros will cost 17.99 euros instead.

Apple did not disclose the reason for the price increase for most regions outside of Vietnam. For countries using the euro, this may be partly because the euro is weak against the dollar and may even fall below par for the first time in almost two decades. Perhaps that’s why this price increase comes as no surprise, as people are expected to pay much more for the iPhone 14 in Europe than in the US.
