READING NOW Why is Dynamic Island exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro models? Why does the iPhone 14 still have a notch?

With the iPhone 14 series, Apple gave up the notch a bit and introduced us to a new “notch” system called Dynamic Island. However, limiting this to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple continued to maintain the old-style notch on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. So why? Why does the iPhone 14 still have a notch?

Why Does the iPhone 14 Still Come With a Notch?

Apple hasn’t officially specified why the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have the notch, but has made the switch to a new system called “Dynamic Island” on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. We think Apple made the Dynamic Island feature exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro series for two reasons. The first, of course, is to persuade buyers to buy the more expensive iPhone Pro models. The second one, we think, should be to protect the profit margin on the basic iPhone models.

Most iPhone buyers don’t choose the high-end Pro models because they’re more expensive and generally don’t offer any major upgrades other than more battery life, better camera hardware, and a bigger screen. So buyers get whatever iPhone gives them the best bang for their buck. But in 2022, Apple wants to change that.

In addition to the Dynamic Island cutout, Apple has made the A16 Bionic chip exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro series, further widening the difference between Pro and non-Pro models. Apple will probably follow the same policy in its next series. So in a way, the one who gives the money will blow the whistle…

  • Why did Apple use the old A15 Bionic chip instead of the A16 Bionic in the iPhone 14?

From Apple’s point of view, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are technically cheaper than the outgoing iPhone 13 Pro models, despite costing the same as last year, as they offer the new chip and Dynamic Island cutout design. Therefore, from this perspective, Apple may have had to use the notch and A15 Bionic chip to maintain the profit margin on the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus.
