NASA has announced that the Perseverance rover on Mars has taken the most detailed image of the planet’s surface in the history of the survey: The resolution of the photo is 2.5 billion pixels.

The panoramic image, consisting of more than a thousand photos, was taken near the delta of an ancient river around Jezero Lake crater, where you can enjoy views of rocks, Martian hills and cliffs. The high-resolution version of the image from NASA is almost 3.85GB in size and is available for download from NASA’s website.
An ideal place to search for life on Mars
Traces of the rover can be seen on the left side of the image, where it rolled into the crater, with 10-metre boulders just in front of it. They have been exposed to wind erosion for billions of years, and as a result, they are said to gradually take on their jagged shape.
These rocks are believed to be some of the most fine-grained sedimentary rocks in the delta and are therefore a good place to look for life. Perseverance is drilling to analyze the chemistry and mineralogy of these rocks as part of their scientific work in the area.
