Samsung’s newly introduced foldable smartphone Galaxy Z Flip 4 was updated in several design and build quality points compared to the previous generation. While there is Gorilla Glass Victus + protection instead of Victus on the screen of the phone, the hinge structure has also been redesigned and strengthened. The new model also retains the Armor Aluminum frame and IPX8 waterproof rating of the predecessor model. But the real question is whether it’s as durable as the Galaxy Z Flip 3 that was released last year.
Galaxy Z Flip 4 was the guest of JerryRigEverything’s endurance test. The results are not that surprising. While the cover screen is scratched at the 6th level, deeper grooves are formed at the 7th level and users can crush the foldable screen with their fingernails if they are not careful.
On the other hand, although the Galaxy Z Flip 4 does not have an IP rating for dust resistance, it was surprisingly resistant to dust in the test. The hinge design does a great job keeping foreign bodies and particles out of the internal mechanism, but speaking of the hinge, it doesn’t look as sturdy as it did last year.
Can Galaxy Z Flip 4 Twist In The Reverse Direction?
Having an inward-folding hinge structure, the Z Flip 4, on the other hand, seems strong enough to prevent the phone from splitting in two when subjected to force, but still bends a little like the Galaxy Z Flip 3. An internal component near the hinge breaks or pops out when sufficient force is applied to the hinge from behind. However, at the end of everything, even if it is a little bent, it can continue to work without any problems.
In short, both the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Flip 4 are models that have similarly survived JerryRigEverything’s durability and bending tests. However, it looks like the Z Flip 4 may suffer more internal damage in the process.
