Pokémon Go developer Niantic is working on an augmented reality mobile game based on the Marvel universe. The game called Marvel World of Heroes, Pokemon Go, will adapt the augmented reality theme to superheroes.
Players transform into Marvel heroes
Niantic shared a short promotional video of the game. The company’s new game lets you create your own character to thwart the ‘bad guys’ in your neighborhood. “Create your own hero, patrol your neighborhood to prevent crime, and save the Multiverse with your friends and iconic Marvel heroes like Spider-Man, Captain America, and Wolverine,” the game’s description says.
Marvel World of Heroes seems to be making ample use of Niantic’s expertise in AR mobile games. The new augmented reality game also gives players the chance to choose from many different body types, genders and outfits. In this way, users can take on the character they want.
The makers state that they are inspired by MMORPG games for Marvel World of Heroes. Stating that they are trying to give the feeling of such games more clearly, Niantic officials stated that they set out with the idea that the interaction of Marvel superheroes with the supernatural powers of our world would be quite impressive.
Unlike Pokemon Go in the new game, it looks like you will fight, not the Pokemon you catch. The short trailer features players wielding Thor’s hammer Mjölnir, Cyclops’ laser-blazing eyes, and Doctor Strange’s circular orange energy shields.
You will also be able to fight as a team with other players in Marvel World of Heroes, although how it will be has yet to be announced. A clear date has not been given for Niantic’s new game, but it is stated that it will be available for Android and iOS in 2023. You can sign up for the beta test of the game here.
