Buenos Aires MP Dario Nieto wants to make social assistance payments through blockchain technology because of its traceability advantage.

Payments made through welfare programs can be used by different intermediaries to earn money or compel recipients to participate in political activities. Nieto, who wanted to prevent these activities, said:

“The management of social plans has become a gigantic tool for making politics. Blockchain technology can help with this, making every payment traceable and removing middlemen from the equation.”

Buenos Aires is currently in the final stages of implementing a blockchain-based identity system called TangoID. The Buenos Aires government has announced that it aims to operate by January 2023.
