Samsung is now retiring the Galaxy Note 9. According to the announcement, the Galaxy Note 9 will no longer receive software updates. The South Korean company listed the devices it actively supported in the details of the September 2022 security update it released, and while the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 models were added to this list, the Galaxy Note 9 could not find a place for itself.
Well what does it mean. With this move, we can now understand that Samsung will not even release security updates for the Galaxy Note 9. Galaxy Note 9 was released 4 years ago, in August 2018, and came out of the box with Android 8.1 Oreo. It got Android 9 update in 2019 and Android 10 based One UI 2.5 update in 2020. Afterwards the phone continued to receive security updates every 3 months.
The South Korean company has categorized the Galaxy Note 10 series to receive updates every 3 months. Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ used to receive monthly security updates. However, from now on, Samsung will release 1 security update per quarter for these phones. These phones were also released with Android 9 in August 2019.
The Galaxy Note 10 series received the Android 10 update in early 2020, the Android 11-based One UI 3 update in early 2021, and the Android 12-based One UI 4 update earlier this year. However, it will not receive the Android 13 update.
