It turns out that going out in the sun makes men hungry

A new study has revealed that men feel hungrier if they are exposed to more sunlight during the day. The reason for this is that the hormonal balance of men's bodies is different.

When they go to the seaside or hiking, most men eat more than they normally do. Often, someone says, “I’m choked,” for a snack. Scientists have now come up with an explanation for the reason for this situation.

Researchers from Tel Aviv University explained that prolonged exposure to sunlight causes more hunger in men, but not in women. The reason for this is that the metabolic mechanisms proceed differently in men and women.

Trying to fix DNA makes men hungry

According to scientists and researchers at Tel Aviv University, male members of the species in both humans and animals release a protein called p53 when exposed to the sun. The purpose of this protein is to repair DNA damage that occurs in the skin due to sunlight. When p53 is released in the body of men, the hormone Ghrelin is also secreted, which increases the feeling of hunger. In women, the hormone estrogen prevents the interaction of Ghrelin and p53.

According to the research, there is a remarkable difference between male and female bodies, and this difference affects both their health and behavior. However, no correlation has yet been established between how the two sexes respond to external stimuli such as UV lights. Stating that with the study, a research was conducted for the first time aiming to find a relationship between exposure to sunlight and gender, scientists stated that a link was established between sunlight, molecular structure and gender for the first time.

Information from 3000 students was used in the study. This information was combined with models developed in the laboratory. The study was published in the journal Nature Metabolism.
