OBS Studio, one of the open source screen recording and video broadcasting applications, finally got Apple Silicon support. The application launched a beta version for Apple Silicon processors in the past months, but with the new update, users with M1 and M2 processors get Apple Silicon support through the stable application.

Until this time, OBS Studio, running on Rosetta 2, could not make enough use of the CPU and GPU of Apple Silicon devices. However, OBS will show performance and energy efficiency gains in general with its new update. Although the application has Apple Silicon support, plugins used over OBS will need to be ported to M1 and M2 processors separately. Until then, the plugins will work fine on Rosetta 2.
OBS Studio 28 also offers innovations. Now the app comes with support for 10-bit HDR video and Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit API. ScreenCaptureKit and hardware Apple Silicon support will provide significant performance gains for new generation Mac users.
