Samsung has confirmed that it suffered a data breach affecting customers’ personal information. In a brief statement released by the South Korean company, it was stated that the cyberattack in question took place in late July and an unauthorized third party stole information from some of Samsung’s systems in the USA.

Samsung stated that social security numbers and credit card information were not affected by the hack, but some customer data (name, contact and demographic information, date of birth and product registration details) were taken. “We are informing our customers to keep them informed of this situation,” the statement said.
It is unknown how many customers are affected
Samsung spokesperson Chris Langlois said demographic data refers to customer information used for marketing and advertising, but did not disclose what type of data it includes.
While Langlois did not disclose how many customers were affected by the data breach, he did not want to talk about why it took more than a month for Samsung to notify customers of the breach. The South Korean company was also exposed to a cyber attack last March, and 190 GB of confidential data was leaked to the internet.
