In June of this year, Samsung started producing the world’s first 3nm chips and shipping the first batch as of July. The latest news now shows that Google’s 3nm mobile chips will be manufactured by Samsung on 3nm foundry lines. These 3nm chips will be used by Google in the next generation Pixel 8 series.
According to BusinessKorea, the US technology giant will produce 3nm chips together with Korean Samsung. This 3rd generation Tensor chipset will be developed by Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Division. This 3nm chip will be inside the Pixel 8, which is scheduled for release in the second half of next year.
The first Tensor chipset was developed by Google last year and was introduced in 2021 alongside the Google Pixel 6 series smartphones. Before that, Google used Qualcomm’s chipset in its Pixel series, but it was replaced by the Tensor chipset, developed with the support of Samsung Electronics. The Tensor chipset will be produced only for mobile phones as of now. Collaboration of Google with Samsung, the world’s first 3nm chipset manufacturer, also increases its competitiveness in the global semiconductor industry.
