Sony has once again renewed its “compact” phone lineup with the Xperia 5 IV. One step behind the Xperia 1 IV in terms of size, price and features, this refresh shares the same emphasis on the camera system as its equivalent system. That means the phone’s three rear cameras (standard wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto) include the company’s excellent Real-Time Eye AF for better shots, and have super-fast burst speeds even with HDR enabled. It comes with a high-end price of $ 999, as it also has other high-end features that support camera features.

Xperia 5 IV has a 24mm equivalent standard wide, 16mm equivalent ultrawide and 60mm equivalent telephoto on the back panel. Also this tele lens is in a fixed state and not like the optical zoom lens in 1 IV. Each of these lenses uses a 12-megapixel sensor, which is a lower resolution than most 50- or even 100-megapixel high-end cameras in use today. Even Apple seems to be starting to move away from 12 megapixels now. Sony spokesperson El Deane Naude says this is a conscious move to enable these high read speeds across all of its cameras and to maximize low-light sensitivity with larger pixels.

Each of the rear cameras has a read rate of 120 fps and each has the possibility of recording video in 4K / 120p. It also has the ability to take photos at 20fps with autofocus, autoexposure and HDR enabled. The selfie camera also features a new 12-megapixel sensor.

Apart from the photography features, the Xperia 5 IV packs a 6.1-inch 1080p OLED display with 120Hz screen refresh rate and 21:9 long form factor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and a 5,000mAh battery with wireless charging capability. 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage are available with an IP65/68 rating and still house a few hardware features that are now fading fast. That is, it has a headphone jack and a microSD card slot. There’s also sub-6GHz 5G support (no mmWave) and a new set of more powerful stereo speakers.

The Xperia 5 IV is scheduled to go on sale on October 27…
