The Artemis mission program, which covers humanity’s return to the Moon after more than 50 years, unfortunately failed to start its first mission. The launch, scheduled for Monday, was delayed minutes before launch due to a problem with the engine of NASA’s SLS rocket system. After the announcement of the postponement, NASA determined Friday as the possible day for the launch.

But NASA’s plans have changed. In the statement shared today, the agency announced that if the launch takes place on Friday, they will face adverse weather conditions. For this reason, NASA, which shares the probability of delaying the launch on that day as 60%, announced a new date.

Don’t promise anyone on Saturday night:

  • The route of the Orion spacecraft on the Artemis I mission

NASA’s Artemis I mission launch date is set for Saturday, September 3. While there is no exact time for the launch, it has been announced that the two-hour interval in which the launch will take place will begin at 21:17 CET.

Why exactly was the first trial delayed?

The first launch of Artemis I failed due to a failure in one of the four RS-25 engines aboard NASA’s most powerful rocket to date, the SLS. According to the statement shared by NASA, the engine could not reach the appropriate temperature levels determined for launch.

So, will this delay affect the other Artemis mission program?

While NASA’s problem caused a delay of a few days, it cannot be said that this situation will be reflected in the entire mission program. Because there is a long gap between NASA’s Artemis missions. However, even the problem experienced in the first postponement serves to reduce the number of problems that may be encountered in the coming years.

So when will the other Artemis missions be? When will humanity reach the Moon again?

While the second mission of the Artemis program is targeted for 2024, this mission will be the first manned mission of the program. But the astronauts will not reach the lunar surface. Artemis 3, which will be the first Artemis mission that humanity will set foot on the Moon again, is planned to take place in 2025.
