One of the later popular functions of drones, which were mainly used for purposes such as delivery, entertainment and video recording, was light shows with swarms of drones in the sky. Many brands have used this event to advertise, and in some regions these shows; adopted as a non-disturbing version of fireworks displays. Although these shows are normally considered safe, a drone show that can be called a disaster has taken place recently.
A collective failure in an air show with 200 drone vehicles in China turned the visual feast into a disaster. In the chaotic images reflected on the cameras of the audience, it was seen that dozens of drones fell one after another into the area where the audience was.
Moments when drones “mayday”:
A demonstration of 200 drones was held next to a shopping mall in Zhengzhou, China. The drones, which gave visually satisfying moments by scattering blue light, suddenly malfunctioned and began to fall one by one. The drones that fell on the cars parked on the side of the road, the show area and trees caused a brief panic in the audience.
Spectators in the area looked for a place to hide so that the drone would not fall on them. It was stated that the shopping center opened its doors to 5,000 people watching the drones for their protection. A similar incident took place in May, when 17 drones fell. While this incident was said to be caused by jammers, the Chinese press called what happened at the new show an “operational accident”.
